Twilight-The Ongoing Debate

Okay! So let’s be honest….what do you guys think about Twilight?

There’s no denying they are a cultural phenomenon, and I’m all for books that get people to read…but what kind of message are they sending?

YALSA has a post on Twilight and Abusive relationships, which I recommend checking out because it’s really interesting. And it certainly is curious that (in New Moon especially) Bella doesn’t seem to have much of a life outside of Edward/things that sparkle. Breakups are terrible (we’ve probably all been there) but they aren’t the end of the world or your life. There’s also an article about a graduate student who wrote her thesis about the fact that she perceives the Twilight books to be sexist. And some would even go so far as to call it “the worst book ever written” (I have to politely disagree). Since I’ve included a link to an article that touts Twilight as the worst book ever written I think it’s only fair to include a book about secretly loving Twilightthe love that dare not speak its shame” from the Washington Post.

What do you guys think? Is Twilight harmless fun? Are you fans?

Also, check out this post which recaps the New Moon movie in 15 hysterical minutes!

John Green’s Hysterical Review of Twilight/New Moon

Since so many Tucker Free Library teens seem to be fans of Stephenie Myer’s Twilight series I thought you’d enjoy this.

I’m a big fan of John Green. Has anyone read any of his books? I loved Looking for Alaska and I’m planning on reading Paper Towns. Or listening to it, as it’s available for download at the New Hampshire Audiobook library.
