Check out Amy Reed’s Blog entry “Suggested Reading for YA Skeptics.” I found the post really interesting; it speaks to the fact that Young Adult literature is more than just Twilight, Gossip Girl, and Lauren Conrad (*yes* that Lauren Conrad.)

Her YA Reading list is as follows:

  • The Perks of Being a Wallflower, by Stephen Chbosky
  • Luna, by Julie Ann Peters
  • Dream Boy, by Jim Grimsley
  • Wintergirls, by Laurie Halse Anderson
  • King Dork, by Frank Portman
  • The Chosen One, by Carol Lynch Williams
  • The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian, by Sherman Alexie

She also has a YA Classics list. There’s no denying that The Catcher in the Rye is a phenomenal book with literary merits.

    1. A few folks have suggested that Cracked Up to Be by Courtney Summers and The Book Thief should be added to the list too.
