YourSpace at Tucker Free Library

So it’s Thanksgiving Break and I’m wondering what you guys are reading? I’ve started reading Splendor (the newest Luxe book) and I just finished Beastly by Alex Flinn this morning. Has anyone read it? I enjoyed it, although I felt the ending and the courtship felt somewhat rushed. I would have liked if their friendship/relationship/love was more explored. Why did Lindy suddenly like Kyle in the romantic sense? I didn’t feel like were inside Lindy’s head enough to understand her feelings towards Kyle/the Beast and how they changed over the time they spent together. Beastly was named a VOYA Editor’s Choice for 2007, a New York Public Library Book for the Teen Age for 2008, and a 2008 ALA Quick Pick for Reluctant Young Adult Readers. It certainly comes highly recommended and if you are looking for a Beauty and the Beast retelling set in high school in New York City, check out Beastly after you finish eating turkey or over your vacation. We have it at the Tucker Free Library! And we’re open Saturday 10-1!

Beastly is another book that is being made into a movie, check out the teaser trailer here. For those of you who have read the book, what do you think about Kyle’s “beastly” appearance? I always imagined him as “beast-like” and hairy….I’m not sure what all those black thorns/veins?/scars? are supposed to be but he does look terrifying.

Also, Lindy was a pale red head with freckles….and in the movie version Lindy is Vanessa Hudgens (dark hair, olive complexion). Also they cast Mary Kate Olsen (yes of the Olsen twins) as Kendra (the beyond unfortunate looking witch). I’ll have to see what kind of transformation they give her in the movie to approximate “witch.” I don’t even need to mention Alex Pettyfer as I can’t think of any better for Kyle Kingsbury. Speaking of Alex Pettyfer is he just the go-to blonde guy in Hollywood for YA books to movies? Where did this guy come from?
