Recently Announced…

Here’s a list of recently announced YA books which are being made into movies.

WingsWings by Aprilynne Pike. The gossip surrounding this movie is that Miley Cyrus is actually in talks to star as Laurel in the movie which has been optioned by Disney.  If you completely hate the casting of Miley Cryus as Laurel; don’t worry too much yet.  Nothing has been signed, she is only attached to the project.  However, check out author’s thoughts on the casting.

City of BonesCity of Bones by Cassandra Clare.  Cassandra Clare talks about plans for the upcoming movie(s) here. She also talks about the upcoming FOURTH books in the Mortal Instruments series, City of Fallen Angels, which will be told from Simon’s point of view and will be published in March 2011.

ShiverShiver by Maggie Stiefvater

Evolution, Me and Other Freaks of NatureEvolution, Me and Other Freaks by Robin Brande

Hunger GamesHunger Games by Suzanne Collins

UgliesUglies by Scott Westerfeld

Wicked LovelyWicked Lovely by Melissa Marr.  This project seems promising because Variety noted that Universal Studios has hired “Edward Scissorhands” writer Caroline Thompson to adapt it for the screen.  I think a book about a 17-year-old girl sees fairies, and who must fend off the advances of a fairy king determined to marry her in order to save his planet from his spiteful mother is perfect material for the writer who wrote “Edward Scissorhands.”  Gothic, dark, yet simultaneously powerful and touching, even the book cover has this vibe.  However, only time will tell.
